What you need to know

The Greater Somerset County Chapter of the American Red Cross the organization responsible for sheltering residents in greater Somerset County. To fulfill its mission to the American public, the chapter will open shelters in the community to service the needs of residents preparing for or in the midst of a large scale disaster.

The chapter maintains identified shelter sites throughout the county which would be staffed by volunteers and partner organizations. In addition, should there be a large scale emergency, we would call on the National Red Cross for material and human resources as part of our response plan.

The chapter also partners with SCOAD (Somerset County Organizations Active in Disaster), the local Office Emergency Management and other partner agencies and collaborative organizations.
