Become a Disaster Volunteer
Disaster Volunteers
Locally, Disaster Volunteers are trained in all aspects of disaster response. The first step is to take Introduction to Disaster Services. This course is a prerequisite for all of our other disaster training courses, and helps volunteers to gain the skills necessary should disaster strike our community.
Disaster Volunteers are encouraged to join the chapter’s Disaster Action Teams. A skilled group of volunteers that are Red Cross-trained are available on call 24/7 to respond to emergency situations. Team members report to the scene of an emergency and assess the needs of those affected. Our teams are on a rotating schedule, which can easily fit into a busy lifestyle.
Required Training
DAT members are urged to take and remain current in First Aid and CPR/AED, and may take additional specialty courses in their area of interest. All disaster training is provided free-of-charge to team members.
Time Commitment
DAT members list their availability for response to suit their schedules.
The team holds regular monthly meetings at 6:30 pm on the first Tuesday of each month at 14 West Cliff Street, Somerville, NJ [ map ].
